Joe Ferraro is the son of a mobster growing up in Brooklyn. After the death of his father, he moves to Long Island to pursue a successful career in politics. He's riding high on his charisma and charm until the political pressure causes him to struggle with alcohol. Torn between his creative talents and the demons he inherited from his family, his roots are hard to ignore. Joe walks away from his house, his job, and his wife. Estranged from his family for five years, one day he writes to his oldest daughter and includes a poem that triggers her curiosity. Joe agrees to tell her his story and it changes how she feels about him.
Based on a true story, Gemini Joe follows the life of a New York family through four generations.

This is a story that I will not soon let go of. Having come from a similar background I've been able to visualize this seemingly common but in reality amazing man. The narrator, Al Bonelli, captured the voice and inflections of how Joe would have told his story. Starting as a young man and going through his life was a subtle transition, funny at times and tragic at times. The way life progresses for us all. So if you want a history lesson of an unusual kind (Long Island in mid-century), you want a better understanding of what a hard working, hard drinking talented man was like, or just an opportunity to adopt new family members, then this is the book for you. It definitely is the book for me. Kudos to Janet Sierzant!Product details

Gemini Joe Memoirs of Brooklyn (Audible Audio Edition) Janet Sierzant Al Benelli Inc La Maison Publishing Books Reviews
Got about half-way through the book, and realized I really didn't care much what happened. Characters were not painted as fully developed or even interesting. I have better things to do with my reading time.
I found the story very interesting, what it was like growing up under those conditions. Glad I grew up later in life
Janet Sierzant has captured the essence of life in the early twentieth Century. The where doesn't matter. I grew up in a small farming community and still identify with so much of her story. I'm amazed. I found it worth my time and I encourage her to continue. A true story of life's struggles.
This is the first book I recall not finishing. The first third of the book is the high level view. And the rest I the book tells the story in more detail. I never got a sense of what was compelling about the main character in the half of the book I read.
I read this book on the recommendation of a friend. I'm glad I did.
Growing up in the American South made much of it alien, but families are universal.
There is sadness, yes, but there is joy too.p
You should read it.
I have now read both of Janet Sierzant's first books ("Gemini Joe" and "Searching for the Shire") and found them both well written and enjoyable. Janet's style, while intriguing, is very easy to read and follow. In fact I read both books in the course of just a few days. I actually read them in the reverse order that they were written (I read the Shire before Gemini Joe). That proved to be most interesting, as I found myself better understanding things I'd read in the Shire while reading the true story of Gemini Joe. I'd recommend both of these books (note, I read them both on my ).
Sincerely, Bill

The story takes us back to a simpler time while chronicling the triumphs and tragedy of a young boy growing up in Brooklyn, through his old age with regrets and one last mission to accomplish. The life of Gemini Joe gives insight to his struggles with poverty, alcoholism, illness, and eventually the loss of his family. The endearing poems of Gemini Joe gives insight to the heart and soul of a broken man, and his journey to reconnect and reinforce his love for his estranged family.
